Cookies are grenades for your brain

and all other holiday treats for that matter

ā€˜Tis the season to blow up your brain with holiday foods. Yep, you read that right. Sugar and processed grains in the form of flour, causes significant brain inflammation. That inflammation causes you to make worse decisions as soon as the next day. Then guess what, the ā€œadultā€ part of your brain that makes good decisions for you based on future goals over current impulses. The inflammation from processed foods turns ā€œonā€ mood issues, selfishness, and loss of impulse control.

Obviously, avoiding these kinds of foods is important for brain health, as well as your waistline. In a 26 year study that followed 1600 people in their blood sugar and brain size, they saw brain shrinkage over time consistent with the extent of blood sugar increase. What that means is, if you want to avoid Alzheimerā€™s and other brain disorders, you want to avoid spiking blood sugar.

Another way to help your brain is to do your cardio. Donā€™t fall for the idea that walking is enough. Itā€™s good to do, but itā€™s not intense enough to release BDNF, which improves cognitive function and builds new neurons. In essence, cardio makes you smarter. For reference, I do 40 minutes before weight training and twice a week I do 80 minutes.

There is some good news for your brain with regard to GLP-1 peptides. They show great promise in halting brain disorders such as Parkinsonā€™s by way of reducing brain inflammation. Thatā€™s a side benefit that can help outweigh the side effects of those peptides. There are other great weight loss peptides that donā€™t impact the gut, but do assist the brain as well. Iā€™m here to answer any questions you may have about those.

Thereā€™s a lot of reason to get your body composition under control, and itā€™s not just vanity, but really the long-term brain effects of poor dietary habits, and not enough exercise. The cost of Alzheimerā€™s care is roughly $10,000/mo as of today, and thatā€™s not including the medical cost of care. Almost no one is planning to succumb to this brain disease, and so they donā€™t invest enough money to cover that cost at roughly $360k-$500k per person for the duration of care. They also donā€™t acquire the kind of life insurance policies that can assist in that cost early enough in life to qualify for it and afford it.
